Lancer Veteran Andy Ruberg '02 shared some of his thoughts on a LinkedIn post (see below).   Important words to consider as we head into the holiday weekend!

In October 2002, at just 18 years old, I signed the dotted line to join the Marine Corps. That is a day that changed the trajectory of my life forever. Parris Island, Twentynine Palms, Camp Pendleton, Camp Lejeune, Fallujah, Helmand Province Afghanistan and many more places will always be experiences I remember. Most importantly, I remember the incredible service members to my left and right and the sacrifices they made on a daily basis.

As we lean into Memorial Day weekend, let’s take a moment to pause, acknowledge the purpose of this national holiday and honor those who gave all for the safety of our nation.

I’d like to remember my Marine Recon brothers Danny Gurr and Adam Buyes – we are forever grateful for your sacrifice.

No doubt this has been a long week and many are somber as we start the holiday weekend.

Let’s give our loved ones an extra squeeze, pause to be grateful for our ability to gather with friends and family and raise a glass for our service men and women who gave their life so we could enjoy the cookouts, time to relax and freedoms of living in the United States.
